Swampland

As much as it pains me to give any credit to the rain, I have to admit that it makes for some pretty greenery. New Zealand has are almost 200 species of native ferns. The silver fern is the emblem for the All Blacks rugby team, the name of the national netball team, and the image is depicted widely on flags and clothing. The koru, an unfurling fern, is also an important national symbol often used in jewelry and art. According to the Te Ara NZ Encyclopedia, the koru is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation because "its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same."
