Napier, NZ

I write to you from Napier, NZ, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1931. That earthquake was the best thing that ever happened in the town. Art deco was all the rage when the town was being rebuilt, so they took the fad and ran with it! Napier now has one of the largest collections of art deco buildings in the world. There are heaps of cute retro-looking pastel shops and hotels. It's all very Miami Vice. This chic town is gaining a reputation as "the new Auckland" because it is filled with snobs who care about art and fashion. These aint' no gumboot-wearing bogans!
